Believe it or not, it's been years since I've been to the zoo with the kids, even though we have a pretty decent one here locally. We've taken them to the San Diego Zoo in years past, but even that's been quite some time ago. This summer, in the interest of having some different activities to keep the kids from sitting in front of the t.v. all day (which, to be honest, is pretty tempting in 105 degree weather), we got a family zoo pass. When my sister came up for a visit, we took the whole gang to check out the animals in their not-so-natural habitats: behind bars. Despite a bit of a rocky start--we found out when Lisa paid admission for her kids that they consider ages 12 and up 'adults',and therefore needed to pay adult admission (Seriously??)--we had a great time.
The favorites of the group? The elephants, the monkeys and orangutans, the stingray aquarium, and the reptile house. I asked my kids which animal they would be if they were one of the animals we saw at the zoo.Bree: The monkeys, because they have a pretty chill place to hang out.
Nicholas: Sharks, because I like sharks. (No, we didn't see any sharks at the zoo. Nicholas just likes to play by his own rules. Also, he doesn't always listen so well. And his attention to detail? It's only spectacular when it's the details he WANTS to pay attention to.)
Danielle: The sea lions, because they seem very cool. (It was a very hot day, and because they were in the water, they really did seem much cooler than the rest of us.)
As for me, I'd have to agree with the Bree on the monkeys. Those guys seemed like they were having a pretty good time and enjoying the company of all their cellmates. Kinda like me at home with all of my little monkeys.
