Palm Springs Day Two

January 18, 2026
Day Two at the tournament was a much stronger showing. It was perfect weather. They shook off the cobwebs and made some great plays. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to put them in finals contention, but we wrapped up our day on the field and headed to the team Airbnb (we stayed at a different hotel for the trip) and had a barbeque. Great evening team bonding!

Palm Springs Baseball

January 17, 2026
Baseball kicked off the season with a tournament in Palm Springs. This is a fun group of guys who typically play with a handful of different teams during regular season, but form a separate tourney team for pre- and post-season. It was a bit of a rocky start, but still a fun day one.

Play Ball!

March 27, 2022
Last week I was out of town for Rafe's first baseball game of the season, but this week I was able to go watch. I don't love watching baseball on T.V., but live and in person, I can definitely get behind. (It doesn't hurt that he looks cute in his uniform!) We were out at the Roosevelt field, which unfortunately has no bathrooms and no shade. I'm going to have to keep that in mind for the next time we go out to that field. It is a lot of fun to watch him play, as well as to listen to their banter during the game. It will be even more fun as I start to get to know who all the players are. One of his teammates has a wife who comes to the games, so we hang out and chat during the game, which is great. The only down side to Sunday's game was that although there was a bit of a lovely breeze, the sun was shining brightly which means that by the end of the three hour game, I had developed quite a sunburn on my shoulders. I'm going to have to remember to bring sunscreen to future games; it's not going to get any cooler out there as we move into summer.

Baseball Sunday

March 13, 2022
To cap off a fun weekend, I went out to watch Rafe play his first baseball scrimmage of the season. He's been playing ball with his friends in a league for several years, so they all have a great time playing together--lots of trash talk and joking around. I can tell it's a fun-loving group. I enjoy baseball, and the weather was absolutely beautiful, so it was a great way to spend the morning. It was kind of cool to be one of the girlfriends in the bleachers, to be honest. The only thing I didn't like was it was Daylight Saving Time, so we lost an hour of sleep between Saturday and Sunday night--that never makes me happy. Nevertheless, going out to the game and then having dinner later in the evening was a wonderful way to finish the weekend. I definitely wish there was more weekend in our weeks.

Sadie's 2015

September 26, 2015

Today was Teamsters' Day at the Battle of the Bay: San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland A's in Oakland.  Doug's union hall offered a little day trip to its stewards and their wives, so we were up bright and early to catch the chartered bus they provided for us.  Once there, we attended a fantastic barbque put on by the Teamsters (my very first proper tailgate!) before heading into the ballpark.  We had seats directly in the sun--a drawback, to be sure--but had the opportunity to see a rookie Giant hit a pretty impressive Grand Slam that all but sealed the deal for an eventual Giants win.  This was Doug's first major league baseball game, so it was pretty cool to get to see that live.

The only tough part of being gone all day was the realization I had a few days before that we would be gone on the day of the Sadie's dance.  Nicholas got to go even though he's a graduate, since Treasa is still at Buchanan, and Danielle asked her good friend Nathan to go with her--her first high school dance.  I told Nicholas, Treasa, and Danielle that since I was going to be gone and wouldn't be there to take my traditional 'before the dance' pictures, they had to make sure to send me pictures via text.  Treasa's dad did the photography duties at her house, since Treasa's mom was also at another event.  It was a blurry shot, but I'm glad they sent it anyway.  I'm not even sure who shot Danielle's picture, but I think it's pretty cute too.  It's Danielle, Megan, Nathan, and Megan's date Garrett.  I checked in with both the kids at the end of the night once they got back safely to their dad's house, and they all said they had a great evening!

Baseball With the Royals

July 31, 2011

We got to take Nicholas and Danielle out to watch Dennis' team, The Royals, play baseball recently. They loved the game--especially the fact that they knew some of the players and could cheer for them by name.

Fresno Grizzlies Game

July 15, 2011

On Friday we were a family of three, instead of five. Bree had rehearsal for "Hello Dolly," and Nicholas had been invited to his best friend's birthday party, so Danielle had us all to herself. I had had the good fortune earlier in the week to happen into some free passes to the Grizzly game, so we thought that would be a great way for Doug, Danielle and I to spend our evening. Our team didn't manage to pull off a victory, but it was Friday Fireworks Night, so we ended off the evening with a bang, despite the loss.
