Oh Boy...It's Going to Be Quite a Year

August 10, 2012

P.E. Core
A.P. World History
Honors Algebra 2
Honors Chemistry
Honors English
Spanish 2

Nicholas' schedule is a little unbelievable this year.  It's a daunting class load even for the most dedicated student.  Do I think he has the capability?  Absolutely!  He's a very smart boy.  Organizational skills, however, are not his strong suit.  Keeping on top of all of this academic rigor will be the tricky part of his year.  It might be a long sophomore year---for me!

Jimmy's Moving Block Party!

August 7, 2012

One of the key players in Cut Shot, Jim, decided he needed to pack up and move to beautiful San Diego to pursue a new future.  However, he thought he'd like to have a positive, upbeat send-off, so the boys got together for a neighborhood jam session.  Such a beautiful summer night for a fond farewell.  It was a great chance for all the kids to get to see the band, since their usual playing venue is a bar.  Even Scott and Estelle came out to hear Doug play!

Me n' Ed's Don

August 7, 2012

While we were off on our vacation, we read in our Facebook feed that Don Schmidt was in the hospital and was doing very poorly.  Don was a fixture at Me 'n Ed's, and after several of our big family get-togethers there, he finally accepted that we considered him a part of the family.  As a matter of fact, I've posted pictures of him here as part of our big 'ol eclectic group of chosen family that comes out to enjoy each others' company at Me n' Ed's.

Sadly, just as we were returning from the vacation, Don passed away.  As a tribute, his family decided to celebrate his life at the place he loved--the place where he was just as much a fixture as Norm was at the Cheers bar--Don's Me n' Ed's.  I had the opportunity to meet his real family there, and they all said that Don had talked about us all and had just loved how we had embraced him and made him one of our own.  It was really a lovely thing to hear, that we had made an impact on him.  He'll surely be missed.  He'll still be there, though, in spirit, since they put a plaque on his favorite bar stool in his memory.

Dangerous Drivers

August 5, 2012

We rented a four person pedal car, and the kids wanted to take turns driving.  Luckily, the young bicyclist that our kids ran over had befriended Bailey a couple of days before, so once he got over the shock of being knocked off his bike by the girls in one of their forays around the RV park, he didn't seem too mad (or hurt, thank goodness).  Looks like it'll still be awhile before we let any of our kids get behind the wheel of a car!

More Scenic Beach Shots

Another Day at the RV Park

August 4, 2012

The kids had such a good time, they wanted to hang out on the inflatables again.  Poor Danielle was so red and blistered that the only way I would allow her to join in was if she wore a t-shirt to cover her shoulders and a big hat to protect her face.  Note the expression on her face.  She is obviously proud of her very fashionable look.  I think she's channeling Gilligan.
