Freya is Three

May 10, 2010

Today is Miss Freya's third birthday, and I can hardly believe it. On Saturday we had a celebration at Mom and Dad Krepp's house. She's such a sweet and funny little girl, and all of us had a great time watching her playing with all the other kids who came to celebrate with her. There were so many younger kids there that my own kids looked like giants next to them! I still think of them as my babies, but at times like that I realize how much older they've gotten. I can't say it didn't make me a little nostalgic for those Barbie Doll and Tinker Toys and Dora the Explorer days.

I had taken Danielle with me to shop for the perfect gift for Freya a few days before the party, and she last latched onto a toy she found called Meowsic Keyboard. I'm telling you, it entertained her the whole time I was in Target shopping (and for those of you who are in the know, you probably realize what a black hole Target is--you can get sucked in there for hours before you even know it). It's a regular keyboard, but it also has a whole variety of cat songs that it plays, and in a different mode, the keyboard plays its tones in 'Meows' instead of your average, run-of-the-mill notes. Very amusing! The only problem was that the keyboard Danielle found was certainly a little road worn--it looked as if a Target cart had run over it a time or two. And, as always seems to be the case in these sorts of instances, it was the last one on the shelf. We sadly left the store empty-handed. (Well, not really empty-handed; it IS Target after all. We left with plenty of stuff, none of which was a birthday present.)

Two days later, we still hadn't come up with a present, mainly because nothing else was as cool as the gift Danielle had found. We found ourselves back at Target (yes, more than once in a week--don't judge), this time with the whole family. Danielle immediately ran to show the Meowsic Keyboard to Doug. HE was fascinated with it and didn't want to put it down. "You're getting this for her, right? You know you have to get it." So the search was on. We had the guy working in the toy department check around all the stores until he found one that could be put on hold for us. Mission accomplished, super cool toy in hand, we were ready to hit the party. We were not disappointed, either; Freya loved it!

Happy birthday, Miss Freya--Auntie Donna, Uncle Doug, Bree, Nicholas, and Danielle all love you bunches!
